Garlic

Of all the aromatics, garlic is perhaps the most polarizing - and one of the most pungent! Here on the farm it's one of our favorite crops to both grow and eat. For the 2009 season, we planted 10 pounds of seed garlic and sold our entire harvest in only four weeks at the market. This season, we planted 55 pounds of seed garlic and provided the rainy winter hasn't been detrimental to the crop, we're planning on having plenty of garlic available beginning in late June.
Last year, the spicy Spanish Roja was our most popular variety; this year, we're growing 5 times as much of it, along with a number of other varieties that range in flavor from mild to spicy and in size from small to large.
2010 Varieties:
Spanish Roja, German Brown, Kettle River Giant, Chesnok Red, Music Pink
The bulb garlic harvest has been delayed by this weekend's rain, but if things dry out this week we should begin harvesting the first weekend of June. Estimated curing time: 3-4 weeks beginning 6/5/10.
Green Garlic: Out of season.
Garlic Scapes: Harvesting now!
